We aim to empower communities through the impact of creativity, one project at a time
Our programs are designed to make valuable contributions to the social and emotional development of our participants as well as addressing their physical needs as well.
We want to be recognized by our A.C.T.S, advocacy, and service to others as a viable, sustainable business concept for social enterprise. Recognizing that our actions are an expression of our values, source of encouragement, and inspiration towards the positive change that is needed to rebuild trust, healing, and restoration for those experiencing times of challenge, loss, and transition. Beginning first in our community, city, state, country then globally.
We are growing a conglomeration of business leaders using the deeply rooted seed of entrepreneurialism, creative expressions with enterprising programs fueled by their leadership, advocacy, and community outreach. Our partnerships, collaborations and relationships are established with like-minded individuals and organizations who have been leading successfully with integrity and their giving strategies and values align with our goals.
Our Beginnings
September of 2000, our first program was created, Advocates Committed Together in Service. This program was established to be a community-based program that ACTS as a point-of-contact for collaborative partnerships and programs in support of children, youth, and families; ideally, family reunification whenever possible. A few weeks later, my family and I were displaced due to a fire in our home. We were rendered homeless and left with only the clothing on our backs. At the time, because I couldn’t afford rental insurance, we lost everything and the assistance we received was very minimal. The savings I had was used to pay for us to ‘stay together’ in motel rooms and when the money I held onto was depleted we slept in our car. It wasn’t until a friend found us and offered us a room to stay at her place to lay our heads and rest until I was able to get my head together emotionally and financially to secure my own place.
This was just the beginning of our trials & transition from having a home to homelessness. I am forever grateful for my first responders, those angels encamped and supporters who helped us and encouraged me and my family when “I” was at my lowest mentally, emotionally & financially. We were traumatized and left emotionally bankrupt. However, I remember the promise I made to myself, that whenever possible, I would find a way to ACT on the behalf of someone else going through transition and doing their absolute best to keep their family together. I know firsthand what that feels like and can still remember the nights I silently cried myself to sleep. Not knowing how I was going to make it from one day to the next, trying to secure food for my family; let alone what I was supposed to do next for myself. As I started helping others, I began to realize my strength came from supporting others with resources, referrals and opportunities that could help them get back to self-sufficiency. Especially since they worked for me.
Our Programs
Advocates Committed Together in Service program was established to assemble a “Family” of supporters who “ACTS” on the behalf of children, youth and families. We serve as a point of contact for collaborative partnerships and programs in support of children and youth placed in the foster care system, living in orphanages as well as children diagnosed with critical illnesses i.e., Cancer and HIV/Aids. And lastly, we help to restore hope with dignity to families transitioning from homelessness back to self-sufficiency. It is our "Community Idea with A Global Vision."
Our “Cover With Love” program has been in operation for 21 years and we’ve awarded 520 “Covers With Love” to participants throughout the United States and as far as Buseko Children’s Home, an orphanage in Zambia, Africa. We began by “adopting” foster care agencies, orphanages, hospitals, childcares, classrooms, DCFS and families to locate and award a child or children with their very own “Cover With Love.” Which are personalized quilts designed to the child’s specific liking and created to serve as a special greeting or get-well card.
The center panel boldly displays the message of “God Bless” and the Child’s/person’s name with brightly colored, quilted panels surrounding. “Covers With Love” are purposely designed to be used as a “point of contact” to confirm their identity, ownership, love, encouragement and support. Our covers are easily transported and can also be displayed as a banner in a patients’ room while they’re recovering. Each cover measures approximately 40” x 47”, made with 100% cotton fabrics and completely machine washable and dryable. Covers are made to fit four specific categories:
